Essential Phone Coming in ‘a Few Weeks’: Andy Rubin

Andy Rubin, the co-creator of Android platform had announced its Essential PH-1 aka the Essential Phone smartphone back in May this year. The device was promised to be made available to customers in 30 days since then. Though, that didn’t happen. Now, the company seems to be all set for the launch of Essential Phone as it posted a tweet addressing the availability of the phone in ‘a few weeks’.

The official Twitter handle of Essential posted a tweet saying “We’ve been working around the clock to get our first device in your hands. See this update from Andy.” The tweet incorporated an attached letter which further hints that the upcoming Essential mobile is presently under testing and certification phase with the several US and international carriers. The Essential Phone has already cleared the FCC certification.

As of now, the company has not provided any specific release date, but the latest update suggests the availability of the Essential Phone sometime in August.

Coming to the specification, the Essential Phone will come with a 5.7-inch Quad-HD (1440×2560 pixels) display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The handset packs a 3040mAh battery with support for fast charging tech.

The Essential Phone has a magnetic connector along with wireless data transfer feature. The company will ship a charging dock along with the device which can be connected using the small metal pins. Also see: New Lenovo mobiles under Rs 20,000.

On the camera front, the Essential Phone will offer a dual rear camera setup with a combination of 13MP sensors. The dual camera setup will include one RGB sensor while the other will be a monochrome sensor with a f/1.85 lens. For selfies, there will be an 8MP front-facing camera with 4K video recording support. The connectivity options on the device include Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, Wi-Fi, a 3.5mm audio jack, and NFC.

The Essential Phone is expected to compete with the high-end flagship smartphones of likes of Apple mobiles, Google, and Samsung mobiles in India. It will be priced at $700 (roughly Rs 45,000). The Essential Phone is believed to be built from titanium and ceramic for added strength. The handset also features a fingerprint sensor at the rear panel.
