Top 8 Features of Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+

The wait for Samsung’s highly-anticipated flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, and Galaxy S8+ is finally over. The South Korean tech giant has recently unveiled the two smartphones alongside the Samsung DeX dock and Gear 360. The company also featured the all new Bixby voice-based virtual assistant in the newly launched phones. The smartphones will be available for pre-order in select markets from March 30, while the official sale will start from April 21.

The new Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ offers a lot of notable changes from the last year’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones in terms of specifications and design. Both devices are equipped with the latest 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC (in select markets 64-bit Exynos 8895 SoC). The smartphones will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage with expansion support up to 256GB via microSD card.

Design

While the Samsung Galaxy S7 had shared the similar design language of Galaxy S6 smartphone, the new Samsung Galaxy S8 offers extreme changes. The Galaxy S8 has a metal frame design with front and back glass. Samsung has removed the physical home button on the front and the capacitive navigation buttons in its latest mobiles. Instead, there are on-screen controls and the fingerprint sensor is now on the rear panel beside the camera sensor. The devices offer an edge-to-edge display.

Infinity Display

Both smartphones flaunt dual-edge curved displays which offer sleek and slim form factor. Both feature Super AMOLED panels with an aspect ratio of 18:5:9 and has QHD resolution. Samsung calls the new display as the Infinity Display. The Galaxy S8 offers a 5.8-inch QHD (1440×2960 pixels) display with pixel density of 570ppi, whereas the Galaxy S8+ offers a 6.2-inch QHD (1440×2960 pixels) display and pixel density of 529ppi.

Cameras

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ offers 12MP Dual Pixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, OIS, EIS, and autofocus capabilities. The Galaxy S8-series is competent for 4K video recording. For selfies, there is an 8MP front camera with auto focus.

Security

The fingerprint sensors have become widespread security feature on smartphones. Samsung has taken the smartphone security to further level with IRIS scanner and biometric authentication. The IRIS scanner was first introduced in the Galaxy Note 7 which unfortunately terminated due to the faulty battery.

Bixby AI-assistant

The new Samsung mobiles will feature the new AI-based Bixby assistant along with the Google Assistant. The Bixby assistant can perform basic tasks for users such as scheduling alarms, offer weather updates, usage pattern analysis and giving suggestions about the functions and apps you use.

Water and Dust Resistance

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ come with IP68 certification which resists water and dust. The new smartphones can survive under 1.5 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

S-Health

Similar to the previous Galaxy flagship smartphones, the new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ features S-Health app pre-loaded on it. The internal sensors can log the basic data like calories burned, distance covered, the number of steps and more. The onboard heart rate sensor is competent to measure the heart rate at a given point of time.

Connectivity

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ features all usual set of connectivity options including 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS, dual-SIM card, NFC, Wi-Fi, USB Type-C for charging and data transfer. Samsung is offering the flagship AKG headphones with dual drivers along with the latest mobiles.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will be offered in five grey options- arctic silver, maple gold, coral blue, midnight black, and orchid grey.
