Who’s Gonna Enter The Data Tariff War Next?

Following the telecom giants Airtel and Idea Cellular, Vodafone recently offered promotional schemes with up to 67% more data for its 2G, 3G and 4G services keeping the existing price for tariffs. The Mukesh Ambani led Telecom Company; Reliance Jio, has been rumored to be launched in next couple of weeks (probably on Independence Day ie. 15th August).

The Jio service is to offer tariff plans which may be Eight Times Cheaper than its competitors.

Hence a big tariff war is headed in the Indian telecom sector.

Data Rate Slashes

Earlier, Airtel offered the pre-paid data tariff packs with up to 67% of more data benefits at the existing prices. Afterward, Idea Cellular slashed mobile internet tariff rates up to 45% for its prepaid customers. And now Vodafone increased the data benefits on their existing data packs for the same price. So the big tariff war has already begun now.

Reliance Jio 4G services has spoilt the Indian mobile consumer even before its official launch. The company has over 1.5 million of user base that are enjoying the unlimited data at a lightning speed. This user base includes Reliance’s employees, LYF smartphone users and business partners including retailers. People are searching for different ways to get their hands on a Jio SIM card. One of the popular and easier way to get this SIM is to buy a phone from LYF smartphone range which starts from as low as Rs. 2,999. Most of the 4G mobile phones users from the LYF brand are treating their phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot instead of primary mobile device. Reliance is claiming that an average Jio service user consumes around 26GB of data every month. If the commercial tariff plans for Reliance Jio services enters the Indian market with eight times cheaper rates, then the competitors will also have to offer heavy price drops to sustain.
