All You Need to Know About the Xiaomi Mi 6

Xiaomi launched the Mi 6 in china about a month ago and it seems now to be planning for its India launch. If the reports are to be believed, the phone will be launched in India somewhere in the month of May and is expected to be priced at about Rs. 27,000. The company is said to be in discussion with Flipkart and Amazon for an exclusive partnership for the Xiaomi Mi 6.

The company is reportedly launching the 64GB variant in India and there is no information regarding the 128GB version or the ceramic edition model. Xiaomi mobiles launched 3 variants of the Mi 6 in china, the 6 GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory version for approximately Rs. 23,500 another variant is the 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal memory version priced at about Rs. 27,000.

Another special ceramic edition with 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of internal memory and 18 carat gold camera rings, it goes without saying that the phone is completely constructed with ceramic, a premium material that Xiaomi has been using since the Mi Mix concept phone.

Xiaomi Mi 6: Specifications

As far as the specifications for the phone are concerned it comes with a Snapdragon 835 Qualcomm’s latest and greatest chipset clocked at 2.45 GHz. The 835 is an octa-core chipset built on the 64-bit architecture. The phone comes with 6 GB of RAM as standard and either 64 GB or 128 GB internal storage variants.

It has a 5.15 inch Full HD LCD display with 600 nit brightness and an ultra night dark mode. The upcoming mobile has 4 sided curved 3D glass design. Both the front and the rear panel are made of glass and are bound to a frame made from stainless steel. This construction makes it extremely durable.

Software

The Xiaomi Mi 6 runs Android 7.0 nougat out of the box and has the MIUI 8 on top of it, there is an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor placed beneath the front glass panel which means shorter recognition time and higher successful recognitions. The Mi 6 is also supposed to be resistant to splashes of water. The device has a pair of stereo speakers but sadly misses out on the 3.5 mm headphone jack which is loved by almost everyone.

Camera

The phone has incredible cameras with 2 rear cameras of 12MP each, similar to the iPhone 7 plus the Mi 6 houses a wide angle camera and another telephoto camera which allows for optical zoom capabilities. Both the cameras have 4-axis optical image stabilisation and should perform excellently in the real world. The front of the phone houses an 8MP front facing camera which is used for video calls and selfies.

Connectivity

The Mi 6 is powered by a 3350 mAh battery which when coupled with MIUI’s battery optimisation is enough to last for a full day of heavy usage. The phone is dual sim capable and has 4G VoLTE, the WiFi is capable of WiFi a/b/g/n standards but lacks the ac standard, and it has 2.2 WiFi technologies to allow for better and wider connectivity. It has Bluetooth 5.0 and GPS with A-GLONAS. There is NFC present for cashless mobile payments. The phone has a USB type C port which acts as a charging port as well as the Audio jack.

The sensors present on the Mi 6 are a gyroscopic sensor, Accelerometer, distance sensor, light sensor, compass and barometer. The dimension of the Mi 6 is 145.17mm x 70.49mm x 7.45mm and it weighs 168 grams in the standard version, 182 grams for the Ceramic Edition. The phone comes in Black, White, Blue and Silver colour options

There is no official confirmation from Xiaomi as of now about the launch date or the price of the phone although seeing that India is Xiaomi’s biggest market outside of China the launch seems to be eminent. Although the price is expected to be around Rs. 27,000 we expect the price to be closer Rs. 25,999. It will be interesting to see how Xiaomi decides to price the phone.
