RIP Samsung Galaxy Note 7: What To Do If You Still Have One?

After the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, the company now has officially discontinued its production and sales. Moreover, the company is offering money back to the existing Galaxy Note 7 users. The replaced and ‘safe’ marked Galaxy Note 7 devices were also exploded in several countries. And as the result of which, the company has now permanently discontinued the Galaxy Note 7 lineup.

Samsung mobiles have started the voluntary recall operation after several incidents of the device’s catching the fire due to faulty batteries. The company has rolled out the recall where around 2.5 million smartphones were been replaced across 10 countries with the so-called ‘safe’ device. But the battery problems still resided even with the replaced Galaxy Note 7 devices.

Samsung has recently released a statement where the company has declared that it will ask the carriers and its retail partners for stopping the sales and exchange the Galaxy Note 7 globally. The company also mentioned that the consumers’ safety is their priority and hence the permanent discontinuation of the Galaxy Note 7 lineup has taking place.

The decision could cost Samsung for $19 billion. Experts are estimating a total cost of nearly $17 billion due to the lost sale of discontinued Galaxy Note 7 units and the company could have to add up further $2.2 billion for the refund program of every 2.5 million handsets at an average cost of $850.

In case you have a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 device, the first thing you need to do is to turn off the device and head towards the retailer of the carrier from where you’ve purchased the device.  As per Samsung’s official website, the existing owners of Galaxy Note 7 can avail any one of these two options: you can either exchange your Galaxy Note 7 smartphone for a new Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone or ask the original vendor for the full refund against your Galaxy Note 7 device.

If you opt for the exchange of your device with the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge, then you will be also eligible for the refund on the price differences between the two devices including the accessories for the different models.
