The Difference Between the Duo!
The Xiaomi Redmi 3S and Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime are identical, except for the memory and storage on board. The Redmi 3S also foregoes the fingerprint sensor on the Redmi 3S Prime model. The Redmi 3S (16GB inbuilt storage + 2GB of RAM) has been priced at Rs. 6,999. Another variant Redmi 3S Prime (32GB storage + 3GB of RAM) with a fingerprint scanner will retail at Rs. 8,999.
Availability
As per sources, initially both models will be initially available exclusively via Mi.com and later via Flipkart. First, the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime will go on sale starting August 9 whereas the Redmi 3S model will go on sale a week later.

Backed by a massive 4100mAh battery just like the original Redmi 3, the Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime feature a 5-inch HD display with (720×1280 pixels) resolution. Redmi 3S is dressed in a premium metal body which is the next step in the Redmi evolution. In addition, the phone houses a powerful Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 430 processor and run MIUI 7.5 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The 64-bit, octa-core processor is filled with system-level optimizations that can manage multiple tasks at once. It uses 4 performance cores to perform intensive tasks and 4 power-saving cores for extra power efficiency. These mobiles sport a 13-megapixel rear camera with PDAF (phase detection autofocus), f/2.0 aperture, HDR mode, 1080p video recording, and LED flash. The handsets also pack a 5-megapixel front camera with 1080p video recording capability. The big RAM’s and inbuilt memory is sufficient enough to house all your music, movies, and more. Connectivity options on the handsets include 4G, Wi-Fi, GPRS/ EDGE, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS, Bluetooth, Glonass, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and Micro-USB. The handsets are The Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime measure 139.3×69.6×8.5mm.
Despite these upgrades, the Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime are surprisingly 0.9mm thinner than Redmi 2 and sits comfortably in your hand.
Xiaomi has also sold over a million Redmi Note 3 smartphones in India since it’s launch couple of months back. The new Redmi 3S will compete with the Lenovo Vibe K5 and Coolpad Note 3 in it’s price range while the Prime version will face tough competition from Coolpad Note 3 Plus and Yureka Plus for price.
