Samsung Galaxy X, the Foldable Phone All Set to Launch in 2018

The news about the launch of the Samsung Galaxy X has been going on for quite some time now. The actual question is, ‘when will the South Korean giant finally launch its foldable smartphone in the market?’

In September, the President of Samsung, Ko Dong-jin said that the company plans to launch the Samsung Galaxy X in 2018. It is also known for some time now that Samsung is trying to beat its rivals to the market with a smartphone having a foldable display.

After the successful release of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 plus the users are looking forward to the brands next big project. According to a new report, the Samsung Galaxy X will be unveiled sometime next year without announcing an actual launch date.

Based on a source at Business Korea, Samsung is likely to stick to its recently confirmed plans and launch the Galaxy X in 2018. The report further says that the panel of the Samsung Galaxy X can be folded inwards like a sheet of paper due to the foldable panel with a curvature of 1.0R.

So far, there is still no clarity on what material the display of the phone will be made of. Though, there are a lot of opinions that Samsung might use plastic materials for the foldable display. To make the panels slim and flexible, Samsung might process the display junctions separately.

Another reason Samsung is all geared to launch the Galaxy X next year is to keep LG away from helping Apple in releasing the world’s first foldable smartphone. Apple has recently filed a patent for a foldable phone and there are speculations that LG will provide the foldable panels to Apple.

As of now, LG Display has plans to launch its first foldable display with a curvature of 2.5R in 2018 and a foldable panel with a curvature of 1.0R in 2019. Apple’s foldable iPhone could have a micro-LED display and might debut in 2020.
