Nearly five months after the official launch, the Pokémon Go is finally making its entry into Indian market. Reliance Jio has entered into a strategic partnership with Niantic and launched  the most popular augmented reality smartphone game in India. The game is now available to download on Google Play and the App Store.

Reliance Digital’s partnership with Niantic will allow the Reliance Digital stores as the ‘Pokéstops’ or the ‘Gyms’ inside the game. Previously, McDonald had partnered with Niantic as a sponsored Pokestops in Japan. On Jio Chat, the gamers will also find an access to the Pokémon Go Channel exclusively. This channel will help the gamers to interact with the other players and share interesting tips and tricks, participate in contests, special events, and much more.

The extremely popular AR smartphone game, Pokémon Go was launched back in July this year. It is already available for users in hundreds of countries around the world but failed to arrive in India until now. The game is based on a popular animated TV show, Pokémon.

To play the Pokémon Go game, on requires using the geo-locations to situate the Pokémon in various important landmarks of the cities. The player aka Pokémon trainers is required to walk around the nearby areas to find and catch the Pokémon which are appearing on his/her screen. The Pokémon get superimposed on the surroundings captured from the camera. The trainers have to navigate to the city for different Pokémon stops to catch and fight at the Pokémon Gyms.

To ensure the functionality, the game requires latest mobiles with an active data connection, GPS, and camera to run. The latest partnership of two giants will result in growth in Reliance Jio connections which are currently offering promotional free data, HD voice calling and more until March 2017 in India.

Mathew Oommen, who is President at Reliance Jio said that the Pokémon Go game has over 500 million downloads globally. The partnership will not only help in getting the access to the Pokémon Go app but also will open opportunities for the Jio customers to enjoy the gaming with one-of-a-kind mobile services by Jio.
