Nokia has recently launched its first comeback smartphone named as the Nokia 6 and the company appears to be working on more than just smartphones this time. According to several reports, Nokia is developing its own AI-powered assistant called as ‘Viki’. The Viki assistant is expected to come integrated into upcoming Nokia mobiles.

Nokia’s virtual assistant was first spotted by GSMinfo in an application for a trademark in EU with name ‘Viki’.

The trademark application reads – “software for the creation and monitoring of mobile and web assistants working with digital knowledge and combining all data sources into a single chat and voice-based interface.”

By offering an AI-powered personal assistant, Nokia will compete with Google for its Google Assistant, Windows for its Cortana, and Apple for its Siri. Also, Samsung is rumored to be working on Bixby, which is the AI-based voice assistant. Bixby is expected to come featured in its Samsung Galaxy S8. Even Huawei is planning to introduce Amazon’s Alexa in its next flagship device for the US market.

The Google Assistant is exclusive for Google smartphones. Hence major smartphone makers are working on their own personal assistant. The personal assistant allows users to interact with their device without even picking up or touch. The Cortana and Siri are quite limited in their interactions. It will be interesting to see what unique features Nokia offers in Viki. The recent leaks are suggesting that HMD Global will launch up to 7 Nokia-branded smartphones in 2017.

HMD Global has recently launched its first smartphone in partnership with Nokia, called as the Nokia 6. The device is exclusive to China as of now. The Nokia 6 smartphone features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display with 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top. The handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor paired with Adreno 505 GPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of onboard storage.
