LG Confirms G6 Will Lose the Modular Functionality

LG mobiles is about to launch its upcoming flagship smartphone, dubbed as the LG G6 and the company wants to ensure everything goes right for it. The last flagship from the company, the LG G5 was failed to meet the expectations of its users and the implementation of modular functionality in it was poorly done. Also, the device was sheer priced.

But, the things might get changed with the upcoming G6 smartphone as the company has announced that the modular technology will not be a part of its upcoming mobile.

LG’s Chief Technologist Skott Ahn has announced at an ongoing CES 2017 that the company will move away from the modular design for its upcoming LG G6 smartphone. The modular functionality was the key highlight of the existing LG G5 smartphone, but the smartphone failed to make its mark. It was heavily criticized by its users and critics for the poor implementation of the modular design.

“Spinning off the smartphone division is not something we would consider,” Ahn was quoted as saying in the report. The report further states that LG’s conclusion for the removal of modular technology from the LG G6 smartphone was derived from the consumers’ feedback as they were not interested in modular phones. LG also failed to convince its consumers to pay for additional modules for their G5 smartphone.

By removing the modular technology from the upcoming G6 smartphone, the company will achieve to focus on the design and features of the smartphone. LG introduced the G5 smartphone last year with interchangeable modules called as LG Friends.

The LG G6 smartphone is expected to feature a 5.3-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) display. The smartphone is likely to come equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM. The camera and other specifications of the G6 are very limited at the moment. Though, some rumors are indicating the iPhone 7 Plus-like dual camera setup at the rear panel with flash to capture more depth-of-field in images. The handset is rumored to feature a removable battery with Quick Charge 4.0 technology.
