Samsung has just announced the world’s first modular MicroLED 146-inch TV ahead of the CES 2018 event. The company calls the new mammoth TV as ‘The Wall’. Alongside, it also announced an easel-shaped 85-inch 8K TV which boasts AI Smarts. The latest Samsung TVs have been launched at the annual First Look CES event.
Samsung ‘The Wall’
Starting with ‘The Wall’, the latest Samsung TVs under the MicroLED range uses micrometer (µm) scale LEDs. This LED setup is self-lighting source that means no backlighting is required for display. Such MicroLED displays are ideal for getting better contrast, faster response times and energy efficiency.
The Wall features bezel-less design and supports 4K resolution. It is a module-based design which will allow users to customise their TV sizes and shapes according to their requirements.
“At Samsung, we are dedicated to providing consumers with a wide range of cutting-edge screen experiences,” said Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics via a press statement.
As of now, Samsung has only announced that the Wall TV can be converted into any size and shape; however, details about how the TV will do so exactly is not shared yet. We believe the company will enlighten this product and its functionalities in a Press Conference which is scheduled on January 9.
Samsung 8K QLED TV
Along with The Wall, the company also unveiled the Samsung Q9S 85-inch 8K QLED TV. The latest Samsung TV will compete with LG’s 88-inch 8K OLED TV which will be announced at CES 2018. It is an easel-shaped TV and comes with a proprietary algorithm for 8K content.
It is worth noting that there is a lack of 8K content in the market to consume on such TV. In contrast, Samsung Q9S allow users to upscale any content to 8K resolution using a proprietary algorithm. The company claims that it can deliver clear and pure 8K resolution out of any type of content.
As of now, no further information about the functions, release date, and prices of the latest Samsung TVs is shared by the company.
